Basic Make-up

The make-up lesson was a bit of an experiment for the gang to see how much they already new about make-up, what exposure the girls have had to make-up and whether they associated make-up with positive or negative feelings.
Although Zara had worn make-up at weddings and on occasions she was very unsure about what colours she like and what would suit her. It was important to explain to Zara that that was a good feeling and lots of people feel that way when buying make-up.

Although Kylie had not worn make-up a lot before she expressed a very sure opinion when it came to choosing the colours (the brighter the better) and was very positive through-out the whole experience.

Zara tried on a few light colours mixed with natural shades with a brighter pink on her cheeks.

Zara didn't like her make-up but after talking it through Zara came to the conclusion that it was the bright colour on the cheeks that didn't suit her as her cheeks already had a natural flush. We swapped it for a much more natural bronzer shade and she was much happier.

I'm Charlotte, I've been a hair and make-up artist for seven years and have also been reading, writing and watching beauty blogs for a number of years but enough about me. This blog is not about what I can to teach you but about what a group of very smart and beautiful people have to teach me. I want to share with the world of social media a chance to see hair, fashion and beauty through the eyes of young adults with learning disabilities.  The learners of Transition 2 will be posting on this blog after every lesson to discuss  and reflect what they have learnt.  I hope that beauty bloggers everywhere will listen to what they have to say and take note of the knowledge they share with us.

Please read on to find out more about Transition 2 learning or CLICK HERE to visit the website.

Transition 2 opened its doors in September 2012, as a way to meet the continuing educational needs of local learning disabled young people.

Mission Statement
"Transition 2 (T2) is committed to supporting young adults aged 18-25 with Learning Disabilities, Severe Learning Difficulties and/or Autism as they move onto meaningful and sustainable opportunities in adulthood, helping them to release their potential and achieve genuine life outcomes in their local community."

A pioneering organisation at the forefront of the government’s preparing for adulthood agenda, T2 believes that one size fits one and offers bespoke learning pathways based on person-centred long-term targets which encourage our learners to ‘start with the end in sight’.

We strive to contribute to social development and community cohesion by building, facilitating and participating in local networks, linking up specialist services and encouraging members of the young person’s circle of support to work in greater collaboration. At this important stage of transition to adult life, we think it is crucial to strengthen partnerships across education, health, social care and the community, believing that together we achieve more.

Hope everyone will enjoy what these brilliant young adults have to offer....

Beauty Masks

Todays lesson the learners focussed on skin care, why it is important and what steps to take to complete a good skin care routine.

Zara told us how "skin care is important to provent spots and stop oil on your face" and "If you have good skin care it stops itchy faces."

Zara with her chosen products. Read on to see what she put in a face mask for oily skin...
We talked about skin care routines and how, "to keep skin clean you have to cleanse your face." -Zara
Mushing the fresh banana down into the mask

"You also have to tone and moisturise your face" Zara
Mix, mix, mix!!
Once everyone established the steps one has to take to keep their skin pristine, they considered using a weekly face mask. However, sometimes products can be very expensive and "you can't always be spending!" - Zara. So as an alternative to save pennies we used household products to invent our personalised face masks.

We discovered "to get the dead skin and dirt out we can use oats, sugar or salt to exfoliate." -Zara

We then added lemon to cleanse the skin.

To add extra moisture into our masks we picked from "hunny, banana and olive oil." -Zara

In Zara's mask, a mixture of salt, lemon juice, yogurt, hunny and oats was used to create a  mask suitable for a "combination to oily" -Zara skin type.

Kylie's mask consisted of sugar, lemon juice, yogurt, hunny and banana, which she chose herself.
 Zara toning her skin
Zara didn't want to try the mask at first but after a bit of encouragement, she gave it a go, really enjoyed it and even said she would like to do it again. :)))
 Kylie moisturising her skin
Kylie thought Charlotte looked silly with her face mask on but also thought her skin felt nice after and the mask tasted good. :)))
